E-bird Report of Birds Observed ~ Tues 22 Sep 2026 ~ 58 North Main St ~ Mendon, Utah

Stationary ~ 1 person ~ Time: 2 hr, 2 min

Arrived at the house to grab scope and head up to the foothills for hawks, though an explosion of passerines/migrants around the yard changed plans. Large flocks of YRWA with other warblers intermixed. Somewhat shocking number of Townsend's. MOCH in numbers, nuthatch, grosbeaks, etc. Several waves coming from north end of town foraging their way south.

Also, excellent hawk watching--got to pull the clicker out for Red-tails. Majority of birds scoped kettling/streaming over ridges and peaks of Mendon Mtns from the yard. Some closer flyovers streaming over town. Variable skies, able to see detail surprisingly well against blue sky considering distance.

Switched back to passerine activity at 3:10 and checked garden to round out checklist.

Will go down as one of the most memorable fall days in the yard.

45 Species Observed

2 Eurasian Collared Dove

14 Turkey Vulture (Northern)

3 Sharp-shinned/Cooper's Hawk

4 Bald Eagle

2 Golden/Bald Eagle

Large migrant eagles, presumably bald though backlit and too far to make out diagnost detail

4 Broad-winged Hawk (recording)

Light morphs, great looks through scope kettling with RTHAs and a couple Swainson's. Two in

same scope view against blue sky, both adults. One streamed out a couple minutes after the

first. Tried digiscopes and pics with camera. Relatively small, compact buteos. When banking,

nice look at black and white banded tails in good light against blue sky. Streamed out of sight

around 2:40. 2:58 dark morph adult, same structure but dark chocolate brown, banded tail.

Awesome; kettled briefly with a coop and a couple redtails.
